The March 2018 Paper Pumpkin celebrated their fifth year.  And they just get better and better. This box was filled with extras.  A full sheet of Dimensionals, equivalent to a new pack or more.  Then there was the special gift, two sheets of wood embellishments.   It had a great vintage vibe and lovely papers and images.  The box was designed to make eight notecards and sleeves.

Flower cutouts, ribbon, twine, pearls.  It had everything.  If you had done nothing other than make the cards as designed, you would have been completely happy with the outcome.

But, the internet was filled with alternates and I couldn’t resist.  You know I’m a craft Stash Queen.  I had to hold back a little bit because we were traveling. So, I had thrown all those little scraps and punched pieces in some envelopes and shoved them in the bottom of my craft bag.

I hate to throw away my small pieces of paper, so I usually punch whatever fits before I toss the last of it.  I keep those punched pieces, or cardstock strips, for quick add-ons.  So, in this post, you may see some expired embellishment pieces. Including a corrugated cardboard butterfly I punched from the heat sleeve of a well-known coffee shop.   Don’t fret.  You can get creative with what you own.

So, let’s take a look at what you could make just using the box or the box and a cardstock base. Our Zen Crafter would love the first one in this series.  It is only from the box, nothing extra. The other two cards used a half sheet of cardstock each.

 

These next cards used a little extra.  Maybe ink that wasn’t included in the kit or a saved embellishment from a previous box or Stampin Up kit or a punched element.   These cards are for the Paper Princess.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

These next two cards use a card from the Petal Garden Memories and More kit as a texture and color layer one behind the flowers and the other behind the sentiment.  The Memories and More packs are a bargain for $10.  You get a bunch (50 for example) cards with unique patterns and images along with stickers or cut-outs or other elements.  You don’t have to be a scrapbooker to use these kits. If you are a new crafter or keeping to a budget, take a close look at these to supplement your standard papers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally, we get to the Stash Queens.  You know who you are.  These are for you…

 

For this card, I stamped the flower stamp on Whisper White cardstock and colored them with Stampin Blends. I loved this design and had to CASE it – just gorgeous. This last idea was my own.  I love doing tags.  This one used a heart I had created for another card but didn’t like the color combo when it was done, so rather than throw this away – into the stash it went.  And now, it has a home.  It’s from the Sure Do Love You set which is retiring. So if you love it, order soon.

That’s it.  Two cards with sleeves as designed and fifteen alternates. I don’t know how anyone could have been disappointed with this for $20!

Wow!  The February 2018 Paper Pumpkin was AWESOME!  The box was designed to make nine beautiful cards. Three each of a note card to a friend, a thank you card and a celebrate card.

Here is a sample of the three cards. I made a minor modification to the vellum leaves on the Celebrate card by pressing them into the Garden Green ink. Super cute, right?

But, I’m sure you’ve seen all the alternatives that can be made with the materials from this fantastic subscription box.

I like to divide up my alternatives into three crafting levels.

 

For the Zen Crafter. She uses the box and nothing but the box, she has no extra supplies cluttering her house. She makes a card and she sends a card. Here are her alternatives.

I added more. More flowers, more vellum leaves and used the letters from the sentiments instead of the outlines.

Zen, in this case, refers to our crafter’s craft room, not her card design.  The extra layers of flowers combine to add texture and more color. They work especially well contrasted with the vellum leaves which have a smooth texture and no color.

Everything on these cards came from the box.

But, our next crafter, the Paper Princess, has a small stash, some ribbon and a bit of colored cardstock. She’s just starting out or likes to keep her craft expenses to a budget.  Here are a couple of alternatives for her.

Primarily, she’s using items in the box, but with a little extra.  The card on the right uses a quarter sheet of Flirty Flamingo cardstock to complement the colorful flowers and add another layer. The sentiment was stamped in the same ink color.

The card on the left is slightly more advanced. In addition to the quarter sheet of Daffodil Delight cardstock to add another layer and pop of color, she ran the Designer Series Paper (DSP), exclusive to the kit, through the Basketweave embossing folder from the 2018 Sale A Bration catalog. This modification added more texture to the card. The addition of the Double Stitched ribbon in Daffodil Delight is a great alternative to the Linen Thread embellishment, coordinating with the colorful cardstock layer and yet it still has a country style.

Our final crafter is the Stash Queen.  She’s been crafting for years. Has one of almost everything in every color. She saves her scraps of DSP and has had to buy new plates for her Big Shot. She has a gallery of cards made from whatever she had filed away, including a Christmas card, because you can’t start creating those too early.
