Batter Up! Paper Pumpkin Alternatives

Three cards made from the Batter Up! Paper Pumpkin subscription box from Stampin' Up May 2021
Batter Up! Paper Pumpkin cards

The May 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit, Batter Up!, contained all the baseball-themed goodness a card maker could hope for and bubble gum. I hadn’t seen that gum since I was a kid. So much nostalgia and fun in one box. The best part of this box was the new instructions—all the details and in color. My craft group sped through making these three fantastic designs so easily. Good thing I’m a good coach and had some alternate plays to run them through. This time I focused mainly on the stamp set, which included a hat and a bat image, some great bold sentiments, and a ton of relative stamps (mom, dad, son, uncle, grandpa, and friend). The exclusive stamp sets are one of my favorite parts of Paper Pumpkin. Let me show you how I used them for this month’s alternative cards.

All Star Card

All Star Batter Up! Alternate

When I saw the “All Star” sentiment in the Batter Up! set, I knew I had to do a card with stars. Nothing says summer to me like a red, white, and blue theme, so I started with a base of Real Red. Next, I added a layer of Pacific Point DSP cut to 3-3/4″x 5″ to have a nice big border.

Next, I stamped the sentiment in Real Red and used the Tasteful Labels dies to cut it out. The die has a stitched edge that is such a great detail. I used Dimensionals to add it to the card. After that, I cut the star spray out of Silver foil using the Stitched Stars dies. I saved the solid stars that came out of the die-cut and layered those on the card, too. I love the sparkle of the silver foil.

Batter Up! Hat’s Off Card

You’re the Best – Hat’s Off card

For this alternate card, I started with a base of Pacific Point. Then, I stamped a 3-3/4″x5″ piece of Daffodil Delight card stock with the hat stamp from Batter Up! in the matching ink. I started in the center of the paper and then rotated the cap in all directions as I continued to stamp until I filled the page and some images went off the edge. Then, to give that piece more interest, I cut it into 1″ strips and laddered them on the card. It was a tight fit, and I think I would do a 7/8″ next time to make it easier.

For the sentiment, I broke out the Real Red again. The circle was punched with one of my retired punches, but the Layering Circle dies would work well too. My circle is about 2-1/2″ in diameter. Next, I added one of the tags from the kit and stamped it with the Friend stamp using Pacific Point ink. Lastly, I added three red enamel dots from the kit for a final touch. Wouldn’t this make a great card for a kid’s birthday?

I hope you enjoyed your monthly Batter Up! box from Paper Pumpkin as much as I did. If you don’t subscribe and you want to, there is a link in the right hand panel, the Paper Pumpkin logo. I’ve seen a preview of next month’s box—you don’t want to miss it. Until next time…Ink up!
