It’s been a while since I’ve done a Two for Tuesday, but using the Friends are Like Seashells stamp set and matching products inspired me. In fact, I could have done a hundred cards with this set if I had more time. The suite came out in the mini catalog (which is going away on the first of next month) and immediately caught my eye. Let me show you why.
The Sea and Sand Suite Card
This card is deceptively simple but uses most of the Sand & Sea Suite that includes the Friends are Like Seashells stamps. I started with a base of Sahara Sand. The blue patterned paper layer is from the Sand & Sea DSP pack. There are some stunning papers in this pack, and this is just one. And to keep the paper exposed, I heat embossed the sentiment directly on it in white.
Next, I die cut the large shell image from the dies in the suite using the Pearlescent paper. You can see how it shines with that pearly glow in the picture. Amazing. I didn’t use the entire die-cut, just a portion to add some texture and interest under my shell.
The shell is the best part of this card. First, I stamped the image on a scrap of white paper in Sahara Sand. Then I die-cut it by lining it up under the right spot in that large die. After I had my shell cut, I ran it through the matching Seashells 3-D embossing folder to add more dimension and texture. Simple. Subtle. Wow.
Friends are Like Seashells Catalog Case
Card number two also has a wow factor. I got the idea from the new catalog. Okay, I pretty much copied it from the catalog but used a different stamp set. If you don’t have a catalog and want one, let me know.
The technique uses printer paper or copy paper or Grid Paper torn in two so that you have hills and valleys. Then, using white card stock, you use your two torn pieces to mask off the edges leaving the middle uncovered. That was the hard part. My piece of white card is 3″x5-1/2″. I stamped the shell and seaweed images using Misty Moonlight. Then I used a blending brush with Sahara Sand and Coastal Cabana. To add a final bit of texture, I used the sand stamp with Sahara Sand ink, second generation stamping. Remember, this is when you stamp the image on scrap paper and then stamp your card. Now, it’s time to assemble the card.
The base is Misty Moonlight with a layer of In-Color DSP cut to 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″. Next, I added the two heat embossed shells, one white, one gold, both die cut with the matching dies. The sentiment is stamped in Misty Moonlight too. For the final touch, I added three Opal Rounds.
You can find all the products used to make these cards in the new catalog, except the Sea & Sand paper. If you want to order with me, use the code in the panel at the right or send me an email. I’m happy to help. Until next time, ink up!
