No Matter the Weather Paper Pumpkin Alternates

March 2020 Paper Pumpkin - No Matter the Weather cards as designed.

Wow. I don’t know how Stampin’ Up! did it, but they nailed this month’s kit. This rain gear and flowers themed pack has the materials for twelve adorable notecards and two stamp sets. My favorite sentiment in the kit: No matter the weather, we’re in this together. Perfect, right?

The stamps in the kit are used to add visual texture to the cards. There are raindrops and clouds and gravel and water reflections. I forgot to use the water lines on my sample, sorry about that. Each card comes with pre-punched pieces – rainboots and bunnies and plenty of hearts. You’ll probably have hearts leftover. If you look closely, you can also see the resin raindrops from the kit. They’re a bit fussy, but you can adjust them before pressing them into place.

So, super cute cards, perfect for sending right now. But, I have some alternates for you.

So Saffron Alternate

No Matter the Weather Paper Pumpkin March 2020 Alternate using So Saffron paper

For this card, I cut the umbrella base in half and added a card base in So Saffron. On top of the base, I used a layer of So Saffron DSP from the Subtles collection. I liked how cheerful the dots looked. The twine is from the kit. The boot punched piece is up on Dimensionals. I stamped the sentiment from the kid in Calypso Coral ink and added some sparkly enamel dots from my stash. You can’t see it, but I put the base of the card, the plain white part inside the card so I had a nice area to write a note.

Flower Background Alternate

No Matter the Weather Paper Pumpkin Alternate using a stamped flower image to create a fun background.

For this card, I started with a Whisper White base. On top of that, I added a layer of Grapefruit Grove cut just 1/8″ smaller than the base. For the next layer, I used a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with a random flower stamp in Grapefruit Grove. This is a super-easy way to create your own DSP in a specific color. The sentiment is from the Something for Everyone Paper Pumpkin. I used the Basic Gray ink to stamp it on the banner from the kit. The boots, the hearts, and the banner are all on Dimensionals. For a final touch, I colored some basic pearls with my So Saffron Stampin’ Blends Marker.

Shiny Boots Alternate

The last alternate employs a couple of cool techniques. First, instead of just stamping the clouds, I heat embossed them in White. Because the stamps are Distinktive, they have a ton of texture and I love how the blue background peeks through.

Next, I stamped the background. I used the gravel stamp with Gray Granite ink. I used the grass stamp with Granny Apple Green. I added the flowers using a stamp from the I’ll Bee Yours kit and Grapefruit Grove ink. I love the beachy vibe this gave the card. Can’t you imagine the ocean just beyond?

The sentiment is stamped in Blueberry Bushel. I wanted it to be easy to read but also more monochromatic so it didn’t distract from my gorgeous clouds and fabulous boots. The boots! I used a stamp from the bonus stamp set to heat emboss them with some old powder on a Memories and More card I had. There is a subtle stripe that I love and I wanted something that would be thick enough to hold up the next part of this. To make the boots shiny, I used the fine tip glue pen and pooled the adhesive over the spaces in the boot. Avoid creating or leaving bubbles in the glue or having it be too thin. I let this dry overnight. Then I fussy cut them out and added them to the card with Dimensonals.

I hope you are finding time and peace to craft during this challenging period in our history. I’d love to see what you’re making. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay home. And no matter what, we’ll get through this together.
