Winter Gifts Alternates

Four gift tags created with the Winter Gifts Paper Pumpkin kit.

The November 2019 Paper Pumpkin was designed to create up to twenty-four nature-inspired gift tags. The kit used primarily punched pieces with some sentiment stamping. This type of kit is simple to assemble but also easy to repurpose for alternate projects.

Wine Tags

The first alternative I came up with was wine tags. Sparkling wine is a great holiday gift and it couldn’t be simpler to convert a gift tag into a wine tag. I used Shaded Spruce but you could use one of the other coordinating colors in the kit, such as Poppy Parade or even Silver Foil. Cut a strip 2-1/2″ by 5-1/2″. Score the end of the 5-1/2″ length about 2-1/2″ down. In the short flap that you created cut a hole about 1-1/2″ wide using either a circle punch or a die. If you don’t have a circle you can use another shape like a square or a flower outline or use a household object and draw your circle then cut it out with scissors.

Next, create the tag just as instructed or add extra embellishment. For mine, I added some silver snowflakes in the background using the stamp from the kit and the silver Delicata ink that was in the holiday catalog. If you don’t have the silver ink, Smokey Slate is a great alternative. I adhered my tag to the long part of the strip with snail adhesive. Super simple and the perfect touch to a thoughtful gift.

Christmas Card

The last alternative is a Christmas Card. You could also use this as a Thank You card, just swap out the sentiment. I started with a base of Shaded Spruce. On top of that, I layered a piece of DSP from the Neutrals 6×6 pack in Basic Gray. If you don’t have that paper pack or a desirable alternate, consider making your own DSP with the snowflake stamp from the kit and some Whisper White paper.

Next, I made the tag as instructed, but left of the sequins so I could add them to the background of the card. I stamped the sentiment in Poppy Parade for additional contrast.

This card style would work well with any of the tags. Change out the card base or the DSP layer to make each one unique.

I wish you a creative and peaceful holiday no matter how you celebrate.
